Understanding Closed/Open Beta at Phin

Phin’s beta process involves an invitation-only Closed Beta where select customers test new, functional but potentially rough features and provide feedback, followed by an Open Beta where any customer can use more polished features labeled “Beta” to help refine them before full General Availability release, with beta features identifiable by a "Beta" tag in the portal.

Overview of Beta Features at Phin

At Phin, new features go through several stages before becoming part of the core platform. Two key phases where customers can access upcoming features are Closed Beta and Open Beta.

What Is a Closed Beta?

A Closed Beta is an invitation-only stage where select customers can opt in to try a new feature before it’s widely released.

During this stage:

  • The feature is functional and available for self-piloting within your Phin tenant.
  • The Phin team actively collects your feedback to understand how well the feature helps you achieve its intended outcome.
  • You might notice some rough edges or limitations—this is normal. The goal is to validate the feature’s value and identify improvements before a broader release.
  • Not everyone who requests access will receive it, as supporting each closed beta request requires engineering resources.

The goal for Closed Beta is to give you early access and a chance to shape a feature.

What Is an Open Beta?

An Open Beta is the next step toward full release. At this stage, any customer can enable and use the feature, but it will still carry a “Beta” label.

  • The feature is stable and polished enough for everyday use, though improvements may still be underway.
  • Feedback remains valuable and helps ensure the final version meets the highest standards.

The goal for Open Beta is to work with the customer base to continue refining the details.

From Beta to General Availability

Once a feature graduates from Open Beta, it becomes Generally Available (GA)—meaning everyone can use it, no labels attached. At that point, it’s fully supported and part of Phin’s core platform experience.

Identifying Beta Features in Phin

You can identify beta features in the portal by looking for the "Beta" tag. For example, the Dark Web Monitoring feature is marked with this tag.

Closed Beta Features

These features are by request only. Request access by emailing design@phinsecurity.com and specifying which feature you'd like access to (only available to paying customers).

Open Beta Features

These features are readily available for all Phin partners to use inside their Phin account.
